Happy #TweetsGiving – Thankful For My Mistakes

Posted by: Jeff In: Internet marketing| internet| twitter

Well today’s the day we give thanks for all things that have came into our lives. Even in a tough year you can also be thankful for your health, family, friends, community and to live in a country where new opportunities are always possible.

Myself, it has been a challenging year. There seems to be an upside to an economy that going down. I’ve managed to find ways to do more things for less money. These challenges will probably make things more profitable now that I now that I can operate on a lower overhead. Finding this out was the spark that started this blog, to share with others how they can also find ways to bring more sales, conversions, contacts and contracts without spending a lot cash going after them.

One thing I’ve found I can do to promote a website locally was purely accidental. One day I sent some photograph files out to get printed at a photo lab that was running sale. By mistake I had also send a high resolution files for t-shirts for a website I was promoting on photography. When I picked up the photos I saw my error left me with 25 4X6 inch prints of the logo and URL. The lady at the lab said she had visited the site and had ordered a flash she found there. She told I should leave one on the bulletin board for others to find out about the website. BAM! It hit me, take the other 24 prints around to some other bulletin boards at photo labs, the community center, a building a the local college where the photography was taught, a couple restaurants and anywhere people might want to buy photography equipment. In a week’s time my local traffic to ImageManufacturing.com was up 400% in a 25 mile radius. So with a $2.50 screw-up I was able to increase sales in my backyard that I probably wouldn’t have had. If I was to have bought into local radio or newspaper the cost would have been too high to break even for a while. So I have found I could even be thankful for my mistakes, if I don’t write them off as total loss.

Another thing I’m thankful for is the audience that has started following this blog in such a short time. Many of you have sent e-mails with questions, comments and ideas and I appreciate hearing from each of you and I can always be reached at tweet <at> tweetforbuck <dot> com or through Twitter.

If you’ve got a little time you might want to checkout Tweetsgiving.com. It is a project initiated Epic Change to raise enough money to demonstrate the power of the social web by raising $10,000 in 48 hours to build a classroom in Tanzania.

So I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and can alway find an upside to any downturn over the next year.
