I noticed I had a new follower on Twitter. I did what’s normal once you see the add, check out the follower and their website. The follow was from Tweetstalk and I wasn’t really concerned then I got to thinking this service could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Since the beginning of the computer networking services like BBS, Compuserve and later Myspace there was been a element that becomes infatuated with another user. The stories of kidnappings, murders and stalking of people who met the wrong person in Cyberspace. The majority of the online citizenry takes precautions to protect their privacy, while some just think nothing bad could happen to them.
There will always be questions, problems and dangers with any online service so it doesn’t surprise that someone might be stalked by an individual. It does surprise me that a service is offering to help someone stalk another person. I know people will always want make bleeding edge websites and push the limits with it. There will also be a group looking to monetize a segment of the Internet also.
The best thing Tweetstalk could do is send a message to a user that they are following on behalf of another person. Also they should offer them a way block an anonymous person from following them. This could make the service more credible and a practical utility. I like to hear what you think, are you comfortable knowing that some can leverage one online service to follow or stalk you another?
