Spam 2.0

Posted by: Jeff In: blogging|Internet marketing|social network|twitter

We all get frustrated with Spam. Even if you don’t knowingly opt-in to a mailing, you might have and didn’t know it. Grocery store discount cards are the worst, they have you fill out a card to get the discounts and ask for your e-mail address and in the small print is that they might share your data. Truth be told they have sold the data including your e-mail address.

Spam has recently found a new vessel in Twitter. The trick is simple, someone signs up with Twitter, then they start adding people to follow by the dozens and they wait to the people they are following to start following them. Then the spam starts to show up in the feed for the Twitter spammer. One tell to watch for is that if the person has no post or random post to someone that’s off topic, 99.8% it’s a spammer. The best thing to do is ignore the notice that you’re a being followed and not start following them.

There are many ways that you can use Twitter as helper app to make money. UUsing Twitter alone to make money is probably not going to work on today’s Twitter. One thing I wished Twitter had was a Geo look-up of members. Seeing what part of the globe the user is from is the best way to tell if the new follower is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

A Contest Is Coming

Be prepared for a contest to be run where on Wednesday. It’s going to be simple to enter and the prize will be a must for all bloggers, Twittervillians and social network fans.
